Feeding Your Ragdoll Cat: Chicken or Tuna?

Ragdoll cats are the most amazing intelligent animal you will ever have. But like people they tend to overeat

Having a cat means that you will have to be aware of their diet, and that comes with different factors to consider. One of the first factors to consider when creating a diet for any cat is that people wonder whether dry food or wet food is better. In this particular case, when your ragdoll is a kitten, you only need to feed it cat milk, as when they are younger, that's the only nutrition they'll really be able to digest. Once the cat has gotten a bit older, though, dry food is going to be the best option for your ragdoll. The protein and fat levels are best, and the cat will need to exercise their chewing muscles, which makes dry food certainly a viable option. That isn't to say that wet food doesn't work as well, but make sure that you're not feeding you cat only fish and meat wet food, as the meat and vegetable wet food should be the staple. And just in case you want your kitten's teeth to remain healthy, you should definitely consider giving them the hard chew treats for kittens.

When your ragdoll is older, a full adult, the diet needs to be correct because the cat isn't exactly an active breed. So, because they aren't active, you don't want them to become overweight, so you need to make sure that the diet is balanced.

While milk sounds like a good idea to give to your cat, the fact is that it is entirely possible that your cat won't be able to actually digest cow's milk very well. If you still want to give milk to your cat, considering it has the carbohydrates and water it would like, then you can always look at giving them cat milk.

Fish is certainly one of the best things for your ragdoll cat, but make sure that you don't give them too much of it or yellow fat disease can become a very real possibility. You can definitely make it part of your cat's diet, but try not to give too much.

There is always catnip, which is the favorite herb to lace with toys, but it's important to know that it's a hallucinogen, which, while not addictive, your cat will start to act bonkers, considering it causes delirium.

Finally, there are a couple of other things to take a look at and keep in mind. First of all, dog food is just that - for dogs. So, if you own both a ragdoll cat and dog, make sure they eat from separate bowls, because the fact is that dog food doesn't have nearly the right mix of nutrients for cats that it would need, and so even if you have extra dog food, that doesn't mean you can give it to your cat. It will only make them sick. Talk about low ash diets with cats have also sparked conversation, but the fast is that while low ash diets may help your cat reduce intake of magnesium, zinc, copper and other minerals, that isn't a sure-fire way to prevent urinary infections in cats. Magnesium is the only of these minerals that really effect urine, so while it is a nice effort, it may not be as great as you think.

Above all else, a ragdoll cat is an animal will a big appetite
